Most people spend most of their time inside the house where it’s most comfortable and safe from elements such as an overly bright and hot sun, wind and rain. Adding garden and outdoor shades to the home makes it possible to spend time outside the house and continue to feel protection from such elements.
Proper choice of shades can also increase the value of the home through an increase in the quality of aesthetics and functionality. For example, honeycomb and pleated shades make the interior wonderful. Shades can keep the patio free of rain so everyone continues to relax outside. Around a pool, it’s necessary to give shade to everyone to shield against harmful solar rays. Several classes of shades are available, many of which we will discuss in the following.
Party-like gatherings tend to have a lot of people. To ensure the gathering goes smoothly even in event of inclement weather, a canopy may be used to house all the guests, tables and chairs. A canopy is large structure resembling a tent. Steel standing poles hold up the shade fabric, and side flaps may be added to increase shelter and privacy. The flaps usually have small openings which can let air into the interior, or if left closed can keep the cold air out.

I fell in love with the effects of outdoor lighting at a wonderfully romantic restaurant in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. As I recall, the restaurant was called Cafe Des Artistes. We sat in the garden amongst whimsical art sculptures while carefully placed outdoor patio lights snaked up and down the trees. It was likely the first time I had seen rope lights before. I was enchanted. Since that night I have eaten in many other romantic restaurants and have admired the outdoor lighting but nothing compares with my first experience.
At my own house, I have tried to replicate the feel of bringing the indoors out which is what properly placed outdoor patio lights should do. I have met with moderate success and I love to experiment. In choosing your outdoor lights there are a number of things you should always consider. I have tried to list the 4 most important considerations below.

The two best options for building your own wooden shed are to build it from a wooden shed kit or build from scratch. Of course, a third option is to hire a pro, but this article is written for the average handyman with a few carpentry skills. Its entirely up to you to choose which option to take as both have their pros and cons. We’ll take a look at building wooden sheds.
If you have the time, tools and woodworking skills then building from scratch would probably be your preferred option. The time involved comes from planning as well as executing your project. Starting with a good set of plans is crucial. You can find all kinds of wooden shed plans online but be careful in your selection. A complete set of shed plans should always include step-by-step instructions, plenty of illustrations or photographs as well as a complete list of materials. This list will help you tremendously when you go to purchase all the materials for your project.

In time I hope to find the perfect patio furniture covers for my patio set. I’ve done a bit of hunting so far and I am not going to give up until I find success. Now that summer is around the corner, my kids want to have every meal outside. That means that almost every evening after I get home from work, I’m washing the top of my patio table with a brush and a bucket of warm soapy water.
The other reason I wanted patio furniture covers is that the sun and the rain and the snow can really damaged the finish on my wooden furniture. I have some lovely furniture that looks teak but isn’t teak. I got a great deal on it at Canadian Tire a few years ago. It has really held up well and I’m pleased with it. However, it can show some age.
Almost every autumn I rough sand the table and chairs, re-apply a teak or walnut stain and then rub some tung oil into the wood. The whole procedure generally takes 2 half days and the furniture really looks brand new when I’m finished. I have no doubt that this little effort has added years to the life of my furniture. I don’t really mind the job but having some outdoor patio furniture covers might make it less necessary?like maybe every three years.

One of the most popular and beautiful additions to a front or back yard is a koi pond. It can add life and health to any landscaping and requires little maintenance. A clean pond is a sure sign of health and vitality. Many products on the market offer an alternative to the chemicals used in the past. One such line of products comes from Bioverse and they offer the option of a clean koi pond, while using nature’s ingredients.
Sometimes it takes human intervention to keep a pond healthy, especially if it is stocked with koi. For many years, the only option for consumers was chemicals that could, most of which were not eco-friendly. Today, there are products, such as Bioverse’s all-natural pond cleaners that clean and add nutrients that are essential to the residents of the pond.
Here are a few things to think about when looking for a natural cleaner.
1. Make sure it is safe. The health of the pond is only one thing to consider when thinking about safety. Children and pets that may be in contact with the pond should be safe also.

It’s always around this time of the year that I appreciate the design elements of our outdoor lighting scheme. The days are getting shorter and I find that I am turning on our outdoor lights slightly earlier each day. The result of decent outdoor lighting is that we can still use our outdoor space into late August and September.
During the earlier summer months my backyard was a functional and safe place to socialize and relax without resorting to outdoor lights. Where I live the sun can still be shining until 9.30pm. In fact, during the month of June the skies became dark and the backyard becomes too dark to be safe right around the time I wanted some BBQ guests to leave so it worked out perfectly.
We started to create our outdoor lighting scheme about 5 years ago. My spouse and I were charmed by the simplicity and beautiful effect of the outdoor lights of a French restaurant we visited in Mexico. Since that time we have experimented with many different types of outdoor lighting designs. Our scheme is a work in progress and it gets refined each year. Some years we use a lot of string lights while in other years we use spot lights and twinkly lights. We generally tend to stick to white lights although we sometimes use the odd colored spotlight.

The worst thing about gardening in my opinion is not my weedy garden, or a bed that needs replanting, but rather the fear I have about entering my cluttered dingy garden shed. What makes it worse is the last minute fall pile-in of tools, pots, extra bags of dirt, muddy hoses, etc. If a well ordered garden shed is conducive to efficient weeding, then I have to admit to less than perfect gardening efficiency.
If you can’t find your tools, and have to dig through half empty bags of potting soil and broken garden ornaments, this may lead to your gardens’ worst enemy – gardening procrastination. If you think about your shed like a big closet, and the only way a closet can be useful is if it’s organized, then maybe you’ll finally decide to get a handle on your shed clutter.
The first step in organizing your shed is to pull everything out. And I mean everything! Garden sheds can often act as depositories for old rusty and broken junk and old paint cans filled with rock hard paint. Once everything has been removed from the shed examine the contents with a critical eye. You will want to discard or give away everything that does not have a specific use. If items have not been used in a year give them away.

Ever think about why your outdoor rugs don’t last you as long as they should? And why they wear out so quickly? The answer is obvious, your rugs aren’t durable enough to take in tough weathers and if this is your case then I recommend you get the all weather outdoor rugs.
What you need is an all weather outdoor rug. Is there such thing? Yes, there are rugs that are specifically designed to last you the whole year round, winter or summer, it’ll be in good condition in any season.
They are given their name for a very good reason and what differs them from normal rugs are very clear and obvious things.
All weather outdoor rugs are designed specifically to last long and be able to take in any weather conditions from very hot to cold and rainy. Regular rugs on the other hand aren’t supposed to be kept outside when the weather is too severe because rain and snow can cause your rug to start dieing out.
They are also considered a lot more durable than any other outdoor rug. This makes them longer lasting and will keep them in good condition as long as possible.

Are you interested in learning how to build a shed from lean to shed plans?
There are a few considerations before you start.
First of all, think realistically about your skills. Do you have the patience and tenacity it will take to learn how to build your own shed from plans? Are you comfortable with using power tools and possibly learning how to mix and pour concrete foundations or footings?
If you want to build a lean to shed from plans, you must be able to use various tools. You will also have to work hard. If these are characteristics you possess, you can probably handle the job. It’s quite usual for projects like this to end up being a little harder than first thought, so make sure you also take this into consideration!
You are going to need lots of tools for this project, but you probably already have most of them. You may have to buy some extra tools, but don’t be put off by that. You will save much more money by building your own lean to shed.

Have you ever thought about installing an outdoor spot light? It is easier than you thought and these lights serve more purposes than originally thought. Most homes or business establishments that have outdoor lighting schemes can benefit from the installation of outdoor spot lights. Outdoor spotlights have a number of different purposes ranging from providing extra security, high-lighting pathways, providing extra safety, and providing a nice form of ambiance. Properly positioned spot lights are a wonderful addition to any outdoor lighting scheme.
Initially, when we think of spot lights we picture figure skating events or rock concerts. At least that is what comes first to my mind. These days the use of spot lights has transcended the historical uses and now you can find spot lights in many different locations. These lights are regularly used in commercial spaces, industrial spaces, urban spaces, and residential spaces.
Spot lights are often confused with flood lights. These two types of lights are different and serve different purposes, however, they posses some overlapping similarities. The most obvious similarity between these lights is that they are generally installed at a significant distance from the subject matter they are intended to illuminate. The most obvious difference between the lights is the focus of illumination. Flood lights disperse the light and light up a large area such as a parking lot. Spot lights narrow the focus of illumination and target a small area of illumination such as a person.
