Thursday, August 5th, 2010

You may well be considering procuring a new pet. If you’re not sure which one is most effective for you and your lifestyle, then check out Eric Nolah’s book “Choosing a Dog Breed Guide“. Easy to transport and carry, the paperback can be read anywhere and will help you figure out which pet is optimal for you.

Choosing a pet breed is incredibly important, though many people choose dogs based on their looks, without knowing their habits, tendencies and preferred lifestyles. In the text, Nolah addresses the characteristics in various pet breeds. He discusses large and small breeds, terriers, mixes, toy dogs and even rare types.

Studying the most popular pet breeds, the author describes the characteristics you could know about them. These traits should be taken into account when you approach getting a dog, instead of buying it because this is a well-known or cute breed.

Your living situation is incredibly important to consider when selecting a dog. If you have a backyard you plan to keep your pet in, you might want to stay away from breeds with a propensity to dig. For those who have other pets like cats, it’s probably best to avoid breeds with aggressive streaks. Supposing you live in an apartment, you don’t necessarily want a kind of pet that functions best with a lot of space outdoors.

When you think of poison ivy you may picture a plant that can be a nuisance, that gives you a rash and makes you itch for a while. It can be much worse than that. Some people must be hospitalized after coming in contact with it, and others have actually died.

If this plant was being burned and you inhaled the smoke, you could get the rash on the lining inside your lungs. The pain would be unbearable, and it could be deadly.

Of course, it could also be fatal when there is a hypersensitive allergic reaction. But you have to figure, since that happens to some people with peanuts, it is certainly possible with poison ivy. Old Fashioned Remedies For Getting Rid Of Bugs

Sunday, August 1st, 2010

There is a massive upsurge of public opinion going against the use of chemicals whenever possible. People are instead re-evaluating their grandmother’s old home remedies and they are not being given much encouragement from what I can see.

I guess that this is not unusual, given the enormous amount of money we spend every year on chemicals and the vested interests of the industry itself. A lot of the money we spend on chemicals is for cleaning and the killing of insects.

The majority of us use our insecticides in the house, but gardeners use even more of the substance outside killing the bugs that eat their flowers and their fruit. Would it not be wonderful if we could rediscover the way these things were done before the invention of chemical insecticides, some of which, like DEET, have admittedly been around for quite a long time – more than 60 years in the case of DEET.

The first thing a first-rate gardener should endeavour to do is look after the environment while tending his or her garden. After all, if the environment is right for your plants, then they will have a better likelihood of flourishing.
