The dishwasher typically empties into the drain pipe, but when you install a garbage disposal, it will need to empty into the disposal unit.

Disconnect the down drainpipe coming from the sink and the connection that attaches it to the p-trap. Large channel-lock pliers or a pipe wrench work well to loosen the nuts holding the pipes together. When both connections are free, remove the parts.

Use a small putty knife to trim away the old plumber’s putty that helped seal the drain inside the sink, and lift the drain pipe out of the sink.

Place a 1/4″ bead of plumber’s putty around the drain opening in the sink. Drop the new sink flange into the drain opening and press it into place. From under the sink, slide the fiber gasket and backup ring onto the sleeve. Hold these pieces in place. Next slip on the mounting ring and snap ring.

Nobody wants to buy a house and spend $10,000 or $20,000 for getting the septic tank repaired in just a week or two. However, over time a drain field can become clogged and you might not even notice it.

It might reach certain point where it becomes impossible to repair and effluent starts leaking into the surrounding soil and ground water causing pollution and spreading bacteria throughout the whole area, not just your yard.
